Combined Fire and PCP Program Details


With the combination of these two programs you will earn both your 1001/1002 Pro Board Certification and your Primary Care Paramedic Certification Recognized by the Alberta College of Paramedics. 


The Delivery is completed in two Separate Phases. Depending on the ration of the Programs will determine what phase you will start with. 


 Length of course:

Total time in both programs combined plus practical is 28 weeks. 


Medical Phase: 

Acceptance Requirements 


Phase 1: Academic Review 

The first part is to apply and submit proof of your academic history to date. The required Items for this review outlined on your application form as well as here. 

  • Minimum 18 years of age 
  • High School Diploma, GED/equivalent OR Post Secondary Education equivalent to or above a grade 12 OR Mature Student Application 
  • Current BLS Provider, CPR Level C or Health Care Provider (Heart & Stroke Preferred)***
  • Driver’s License - Class 5 minimum.
  • Please include one of the following:

    • Current Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Alberta College of Paramedics Practice Permit
    • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certificate/Transcript *
    • Medical First Responder (MFR) Certificate
    • Advanced First Aid (AFA) Certificate
  • An Alberta College of Paramedics Practice Permit is NOT required to apply for the PCP Program.
  • Pay $100.00 Application fee 

Phase 2:  Skills and Knowledge Review

  • Complete a 300 question Comprehensive EMR Knowledge Exam 
  • Complete a Scenario at the EMR level
  • Complete a Interview (Bring Copies of your Reference letters  to this portion of the Process)

Phase 3: Submissions of final required documents

  • Criminal Record check with Vulnerable sector completed within 90 days 
  • Proof of all Immunizations up to date. 
  • Completed Medical Form

Phase 4: Financial

  •  Proof of student loan approval or student funding
  • Or payment contract signed with first payment received.

Delivery of Medical Phase 

Phase 1: Online (2 Weeks)

The first part of the program will be an Anatomy & Physiology Module for Pre-Hospital Providers. This section is delivered online and will be self paced through JB Learning Management Software (LMS), with occasional instructor online lessons. This will help the student review and prepare themselves for the in-class portion of the course.  Total time on this course is 30 hours.


Phase 2:  In Class (14 Weeks)

In Class sessions are Monday to Friday.  Class times are 08:00 - 17:00 each day, for the duration of the 16 weeks of in person sessions. Once you have been successful at this portion of the program, you will proceed on to the clinical and practicum placement section of your program.


Phase 3: Practicum: (272 Hours)

The Clinical Practicum setting requires a PCP student to complete the following:

  • 16 hours in a Long Term Care Facility 
  • 16 Hours in an Operating Room
  • 50 Hours in an Emergency Room Setting
  • 190 hours of combined Ground Ambulance / Air Ambulance setting.

Phase 4: Licensing 

 - This phase is completed at the discretion of the student and is an additional cost. It is set up by registering and completing the Canadian Organization Paramedics Regulators Exam or the  COPR  Exam

- Once completing the COPR Exam you then need to register with the Alberta College of Paramedics.


Fire Phase


Application Process:

Phase 1: Academic Review

  • Minimum 18 years of age 
  • Copy of your Standard First Aid and CPR Training or Higher. 
  • High School Diploma, GED/equivalent OR Post Secondary Education equivalent to or above a grade 12
  • OR Mature Student Application ( Contact us for mature student application process)
  • Driver’s License - Class 5 minimum.
  • Pay $100.00 Application fee 

Phase 2:  Interview

  • Complete an Interview (Bring Copies of your Reference letters  to this portion of the Process)

Phase 3: Submissions of final required documents

  • Criminal Record check with Vulnerable sector completed within 90 days 
  • Proof of all Immunizations up to date. 
  • Completed Medical Form

Phase 4: Financial

  •  Proof of student loan approval or student funding
  • Or payment contract signed with first payment received.

Phase 5: ICS 100 and 200 and Hazmat Awareness 

  These programs are all on line and need to be completed before the start of your program. Once your application is complete, you will be provided all the information.


Fire Delivery:

The delivery of the fire program will be a combination of Online, In class and on site. This will Take place over a 14 week period. 

- 2 Weeks online

-10 weeks in class on site.
