Steve McGean, PCP, Fire Chief
In 2009 Steve took his first Instructor course as a EMR instructor with Canadian Red Cross. In 2012 he left the military to pursue a career in EMS, and in 2013 he graduated from Portage College EMT program. Since completing his EMT Steve has worked for Aeromedical Life Flight as a flight EMT and he is now a PCP with Alberta Health Services and Fire Chief for his local volunteer fire department.
Steve joined the Canadian Military as an Air Force Firefighter in 2001 and completed his firefighter training at the Canadian Force Fire Academy in Borden Ontario in 2002. His first posting was in 14 Wing Greenwood as a Airport Rescue Firefighter (ARFF). Over the next 4 years he honed his skills as an ARFF Crew member, Medical First Responder and in structural firefighting.
In 2005 he was posted to the Halifax dockyard, the home of the east coast naval fleet. Steve started on the H.M.C.S Athabaskan where he was deployed on numerous patrols and operations such as Hurricane Katrina relief in Biloxi Mississippi. He then went onto the H.M.C.S Fredericton taking part in Northern patrols for Canadas waters, including a major drug seizure off the coast of Africa.
